Maque or lacquerware is a complex ancient technique and art form in Mexico that involves layering of greases, oils, minerals and pigments. It is a functional and decorative art, developed to create a protective coating or veneer over a surface, making it impermeable and beautiful. Natural pigments, such as cochineal, indigo, cempasuchil/marigold are used to embellish each object. Made in Uruapan, Michoacán México. DIMENSIONS: 3.5" x 5.5" approx.
