Valens was only 17 years old at the time, standing at the very beginning of his musical career, full of promise and unrealized potential. His simple, heartfelt music made the teenager America's first Latin rock star, inspired a Hollywood film, and earned him a posthumous induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The adolescent longing and playful, exuberant energy of songs such as "La Bamba", "Donna," and "Come On, Let's Go" have long since made them absolute classics.THE RITCHIE VALENS STORY, narrated by producer Bob Keane, contains the hit recordings of Ritchie's three best-known songs, as well as numerous previously unreleased demos and outtakes. Many of these were spontaneously recorded in Keane's living room and sound raw, unpolished, and fragmentary. Nevertheless, Ritchie's voice and guitar playing carries them through. These demos are fascinating to compare with the hit versions of the songs and provide a rare glimpse into the development of a great talent.
