Open, the folder measures 12 x 18 inches. The blank white side is great space for dictation sentence practice or for providing structured practice when you give the kids a multisyllabic word to chunk into syllables as they attempt to spell it. Closed, the folder measures 9 x 12 inches. As students participate in word chaining sessions, they improve in phonemic discrepancy. Changing “turn” into “burn” into “barn” into “bark” helps students to listen and focus in on the phoneme level of words. Focusing on the spelling patterns of various sounds develops orthographic mapping in the brain. We hear the /sh/ sound in many words. It can be represented by “sh”, “ch”,“ti” and even “ci” at times.
