It was not until after spending a lot of time in Mexico and getting lost in the dia de los muertos and all the sugar skulls. At first like the cultural use here in the states I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. but as I learned and absorbed the sentiment of the region I saw the beauty, love and respect for all those that have come before us. They are a connection to our past and a piece of us that continues on after this stage of existence ends. I really made this connection while in the Yucatán when my father passed in 2019.
