The spotted horse or “Paint” was common among the Dakota and Lakota Tribes of the Plains. Horses were a prized possession and symbol of wealth among the Sioux who referred to them as “sacred dogs” or Sunkawakan. Pictured here, the spots on the horse reveal a hidden image of the Eagle as well.
