Shunme Double Wall Cup by Shinichi Yamada
For over 400 years, artisans in Fukushima have handcrafted Obori Soma ware. This pottery tradition began in the early Edo period. Known for its elegant crackle glaze and distinctive double-wall construction, it keeps tea warm while remaining gentle to hold. The name “Shunme” (駿馬) means a swift and noble horse — a symbol of vitality and grace. The running horse motif (hashiri-uma), once the crest of the Soma clan, also represents freedom, courage, and protection — a timeless wish for resilience and renewal. Each piece carries this enduring spirit, blending four centuries of craftsmanship with a quiet, modern sensibility. This cup warms both hands and heart.
