Includes 2 static mixing tips. An epoxy adhesive that stays flexible and copes with stress It’s always a challenge to choose the right glue that will stick stuff together and keep it that way in watery, windy, wavy marine conditions. Especially when the stuff you’re sticking together doesn’t hold still and moves continually due to temperature and humidity fluctuations, flexing, and vibration. TotalBoat Thixo Flex is a thickened, flexible epoxy adhesive that cures fairly quickly to form permanent structural bonds resilient enough to flex and hold strongly when subjected to the expansion, contraction, vibration, and shock stresses that can affect boats and boat parts. For this reason, Thixo Flex is the perfect adhesive for building and repairing wooden boats. Sticks to a lot of different things, even when they’re damp or just plain difficult Sorting through the multitude of adhesive products is enough to make you come unglued. Some work only on wood, others are better for bonding plastics. Thixo Flex can bond several different types of materials, as long as they’re prepared properly. Besides wood—even oily hardwoods like teak that are typically difficult to glue—Thixo Flex bonds fiberglass, aluminum and other metals, glass and ceramics, and most plastics, including ABS, PVC, HDPE, LDPE, and polycarbonate. Considering all the materials that make up a boat and its parts, Thixo Flex is the one adhesive that no complete marine toolkit should be without. No mixing needed, and easier to use than other thickened 2-part flexible epoxies Some two-part pre-thickened flexible epoxy adhesives come with the resin and hardener in separate tubes. You have to squeeze out the right amount of each, mix thoroughly by hand, and hope for good results. Thixo Flex has the resin and hardener inside a single cartridge that fits most standard caulking guns (sold separately). Just twist a static mixing tip—two are included—onto the cartridge, insert the cartridge into the caulking gun, and squeeze the handle. There’s no measuring. No mixing. No mess. Just point and pull the trigger to dispense a bead of adhesive measured to the exact ratio of 1 part resin to 1 part hardener and mixed thoroughly to get the perfect, reliable cure for gluing every job. Every time. Much more than a marine adhesive Because of all the different types of materials Thixo Flex can glue, just think of all the things it can help you build, restore, or fix. Birdhouses, dog sleds, bathtubs, carousel horses, bicycle frames, furniture, hockey sticks—and the list goes on. With Thixo Flex, you’re limited only by your imagination (and its physical properties, of course). Specifications Specifications NOTE: Thixo cartridges have a slightly offset nozzle that fits most, but not all, caulk guns. Caulking applicators used with Thixo need to have a hole large enough for the mixing tip; cartridges won’t fit applicators with only a small hole for the nozzle. Recommended TotalBoat Epoxies Listed by Project Type Thixo Resin Part A SDS Thixo Hardener Part B SDS Frequently Asked Questions What is the difference between Thixo Flexible Epoxy Adhesive and Thixo 2:1 Epoxy Adhesive? Thixo Flex is a thickened epoxy that is more flexible than original Thixo. Regular epoxy adhesives cure to form rigid bonds. Thixo Flex tolerates movement, shock, and vibration. What applications are Thixo Flex most appropriate for? It is perfect for building and repairing wooden boats or bonding parts prone to flexing, and movement from weather-related expansion and contraction. It works on wood, fiberglass, metals, glass, ceramics, glass, some plastics, and wet or difficult-to-bond hardwoods. Do I need a special caulk gun to dispense this epoxy? No special caulk gun is needed. Thixo cartridges fit most standard caulk guns. However, you may find a high-ratio (18:1, 26:1 etc) caulk gun makes it easier to dispense. Always use the included mixing tip to ensure proper mix ratios. Can I paint over Thixo Flex? Yes. You can paint over Flex like any other epoxy. Can gel coat be applied over it? Epoxy and gel coat are known to have compatibility issues, so the same surface preparation as with any other epoxy repair product is necessary. Thixo Flex must be fully cured and sanded to rough up the surface in order to ensure mechanical bond. Can the mixing tips be reused? No, you must use a new tip for each use. Each cartridge comes equipped with two static mixing tips to ensure accurate mix ratio upon application. What should I know before using Thixo Flex epoxy adhesive? Store cartridges at room temperature (60-90°F) before use. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and sanded before application to remove dirt, dust, grease, loose paint, oils, or other contaminants. Apply when the temperature of the ambient air and substrate is 40°F or warmer. When finished, leave the static mixing tip on the tube to cure. For the next application, simply remove and replace the tip. For more information, refer to our application instructions. What is the working time? The working time of Thixo Flex is about 75 minutes at 72°F, which is ideal for larger projects that require extensive gluing. What color does it cure to? Thixo Flex cures to a buff color, comparable to a very light opaque brown. You may also like… Thixo 2:1 Epoxy Adhesive System $28.99 – $139.99Select options FlexEpox Flexible Epoxy Adhesive – 32 oz.
