Many ancient cultures had mythologies and legends surrounding a Tree of Life. Celtic mythology portrayed a tree of life connecting the heavens and the earth. Norse (or Viking) mythology told stories of Yggdrasil, the great tree whose branches connected the nine worlds and continued on into the heavens. Christianity also references a Tree of Life in the Old Testament book of Genesis.
