Solid Oak Viking Star Design Shield

Many ancient cultures had belief systems involving the Sun. In most cases this involved a Sun God who was a prominent deity in a hierarchical structure. The Egyptians had Ra, Babylon had Shamash, Apollo was associated with the sun in Greek mythology, and the Aztec's had their Sun God which demanded human sacrifices. This shield is inspired by Freyr (also spelled Frey), the Norse god associated with sunlight, fertility, and prosperity. This handmade and hand-painted wooden shield features our striking 8-pointed star design representing a radiating sun. It features a solid red oak body construction which measures about 27 inches across and is 1/2 inches thick. A heavy metal disc/boss is in the center, and stainless steel studs line the border. Dual leather straps are also used to secure the arm along the back—one going over the forearm and one intended to be gripped or held.
