They provide a major fall food source for deer. Compared to other oaks, their acorns have a low tannin content. Tannins make acorns bitter so having a low tannin content makes them more palatable for deer. They're good as oaks go but they still can't compete with chestnuts in terms of taste since chestnuts have no bitter tannins at all. Overall white oaks do make a great addition to any hunting property and will provide food for deer, squirrels, turkeys, and many others. T
