Shiro Kuramata rare Solaris storage chest for Ishimaru Co., Ltd. distributed by Cappellini International, 1977, Italy
The Solaris is a commanding and haunting cabinet that stands assertively on four long legs. Solaris is part of the famous modern cabinet series: Progetti Compiuti designed in 1977. It was born from mystery and imagination and is a nod to the 1972 science fiction film of the same name. The film portrays dream-like memories acting as windows to the subconscious, the reserve of magic and creativity from which designer Shiro Kuramata's creations are conceived. The Solaris cabinet is a poignant and provocative object that manifests the innermost visions and reveries that occupy our quietest moments. Its 28 drawers symbolize the retention and protection of memory, making it a unique, delightful, and breathtaking piece. This piece is out of production and approximately 18 cabinets were produced so it is very rare indead.
