Wailuku. natural perfume. mimosa, pineapple, pu-erh, vetiver. January 2025
Wailuku ☽•☾ natural perfume. a l c h e m y ☽•☾ My recollection of a place. December 2015. I didn't have a car so I walked, and I took a lot of walks. Along sidewalks dotted with plumeria trees taller than streetlights. Butter, seashell pink, and sherbet colored blossoms constantly falling, along with the occasional startling coconut. Dawn walks watching the diorama of looming blue mountains appearing from behind misty clouds, turning to green in the sun. Block parties with fresh pineapple juice and clouds of Maui Wowie brought in by the literal truckload. Turn right off the main strip and you’re in a tropical jungle where natural tiers sprawling with ligneous vines lead upwards to a waterfall and swimming hole. Trips to the deli where the scents of local ocean catch and the best beef I’ve ever had were overpoweringly rich. I wanted to capture the raw sweet feeling I had there, but with in-house Wild Veil botanicals. The main notes are mimosa, pineapple, vetiver, and pu-erh. Photos: ba
