Altos las Hormigas Blanco 2025 In 1995, two young Italians, winemaker Alberto Antonini of Antinori and entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi, started this winery to make then-classic Mendoza Malbec. But in 2012, they took a turn. Out went the new oak and in came in old, untoasted, casks and concrete along with a new commitment to organic farming and high-altitude vineyards. The result is one of Mendoza’s most exciting wineries. “Excitement” is what to expect here in this wild blend of 52% Semillon (like in white Bordeaux), 28% Chenin Blanc (like in Vouvray) & 20% Pedro Gimenez (like Priorat’s Pedro Ximenez, sort of). A touch of skin contact gives texture and the cool vineyards give vibrancy and cut. Vinous says in the 92 point review, “Attractive on the nose, it delivers pineapple notes alongside hints of wet wool, citrus and honey. The 2024 is light and balanced. The palate is fresh, vibrant and straightforward."
