Beech is typically a pale cream color, sometimes with a pink or brown hue. Veneer tends to be slightly darker colored, as slicing the veneer usually requires the wood to be prepared with steam, which gives the wood a more golden tone. Flat sawn surfaces tend to be very plain, while quarter sawn surfaces exhibit a silvery fleck pattern. Beech is an excellent alternative to Poplar, as it is much stronger and more stable, less prone to warping. Also, it is more affordable than Soft Maple and still accepts both paint and stain very well. We stock Superior grade Beech at our headquarters in Spring, TX. All our dimensional lumber is milled S3S, and the price listed below is the per-board-foot price. If you are picking up locally, you are welcome to get as little or as much as you need.
