You can use all one color for the contrasting color, or use up to 3 (a different color each row) for a more colorful design. The fair isle design in this pattern reminds me of migrating birds, hence the name. This easy fair isle hat knitting pattern is written for 3 yarn weights (bulky (weight 5), single ply bulky (weight 5/6), super bulky (weight 6)) and 5 sizes, so the price is higher than my other patterns given the value you receive. I used Malabrigo Chunky, Baah Sequoia, and Malabrigo Rasta for my samples.
