What’s the Point? Book One: Beginning to Read for Meaning. Part 8: “Final Tests: Reading Information & Skills,” pages 151-158 8 Pages  Who It’s For: Language & Reading Teachers & Students That Want Estimates of Achievement; Academic or Competency-Based Programs That Need Progress Measurements                               Why You Need It: First, (simulated) test practice can help in preparation for mandatory exams.  Second, informal testing may motivate or accelerate learning of material and/or skills acquisition.  Some courses or programs may even require appraisal of teacher “ability to deliver results” and/or learner “ability to benefit.” But even so, especially when grades or other “compensation” aren’t dependent on test results, (illustrated) quiz-like formats are fun to interact with. What You’ll / They’ll Do:   [1]  Look over eight pages of “Final Tests” to assess mastery of info about reading and acquisition of skills targeted by What’s the Point? Book One: Beginning to Read for Meaning—or other comparable courses of study, lessons, or self-instruction.  [2]  Follow steps to give / take the 16-Item Multiple-Choice on pages 152-157. Note that there are one or two items to complete for each Image A-P and that each Question 1-32 is designed to elicit one, two, or three (possibly) correct responses. [3]  Use the 8-Item Essay Test on page 158 as the culminating activity in a Reading-Improvement course or unit.  If appropriate, you can use either or both kinds of quiz questions as a cooperative Review of Kinds of Reading Material & Skills.         [4]  If available, you can refer to the last two pages of the 64-page Answer Key that accompanies What’s the Point? Book One.  The entire Download is identified as F-07.16. [5]  From these or other “Reading Types & Skills” materials, make up your own “Exam” items to use in review and assessment.
