This is the core knowledge you need to work wood competently, effectively, efficiently, and safely. When I wrote the Workshop Companion series, an encyclopedia of woodworking that covered all major techniques and topics, I noticed there was certain information that had to be explained in every book, no matter what the specific woodworking topic – properties of wood, necessary tools and accessories, alignment and maintenance, basic procedures, joinery, adhesives, finishes, hardware, shop safety – all of this was the core knowledge necessary to work wood well.
