Originally the IHS abbreviation came from the Greek abbreviation of the name of Jesus (ΙΗΣΟΥΣ shortened to ΙΗΣ). The Greek letter sigma (the funny looking E) in Latin is "S", thus forming the IHS monogram. Throughout the centuries this monogram has taken on different meanings, including "Jesus Hominum Salvator", "In Hoc Signo", and others. In 1541 Saint Ignatius adopted the monogram as one of the main symbols for the Jesuits. However, history teaches us that the IHS symbol is not specifically Jesuit. Rather, IHS is a well known symbol for Jesus. With this classic symbol as inspiration, I took many titles
