1210 A set of 6 Old Orissa Painting Fragments Geet Gobind
A Set of 6 Pattachitra Manuscript Painting Fragments from Odisha, India Scenes and Text of Geet Gobind by Jayadev elucidating legends of Krishna. The Sanskrit text has been examined and is one that is in no longer in active use. While it is possible to phonetically read some of the text, the words are not familiar. Script used is Devanagari is most parts with some unfamiliar renditions Each painting is approximately 25cm x 31 cm Has been folded over and framed 2 per frame - Frame size is 41 x 34.5cm Rare Heavy Losses and damage all over - suffered due to flooding Yet, each painting has been salvaged to some extent and framed in pairs. There are text verses under each painting but that is not visible in the framed sets as that portion of the paper was quite damaged. Estimated to be from the 1700s. Though the age is not confirmed, conclusions may be drawn from the evolution of epigraphy over the last few centuries displayed in the State Museum at Bhubaneshwar. A total of 8 fragments were
