Clam Basket
Provincetown in April "While on vacation in a cottage on the Provincetown harbor, I was forced inside by a long day of rain. Late in the afternoon, I noticed a rusty and squashed clam basket I had found on the sand flats the previous day. It was sitting on the gray stained deck, not far from the glass sliding door where I was watching the dismal weather on the harbor. The rain water was pooling on the curved boards, which created an intriguing reflection. From inside, protected from the rain, I photographed my found object through the open door. Using a telephoto lens to compress the distance and a small aperture to increase the depth of focus, I chose an angle to accentuate the curved shapes against the linear pattern of the decking. In spite of its abstractness, this image is very popular with local “clammers.” -Jon Vaughan, Photographer Fine Art 8” x 10" Photograph by Jon Vaughan, dry mounted on acid-free foam board, custom cut and hinged on an acid-free matte.
