"Old wooden dories are disappearing from the shoreline. Now everyone uses aluminum or fiberglass vessels – longer life span with less upkeep. This freshly painted specimen caught my eye on a calm night just before sunset. I was fascinated by the altered colors caused by the sun glancing off the surface of the water. This image which is in my book, Coastal Effects, was taken exactly 15 minutes after the vertical Fisherman’s Dory image that became a magazine cover. The sun had just set and was lit by waning sky light. The pink hue in the water is the Belt of Venus, a band of soft red/pink light that sometimes rests just above the horizon opposite the setting sun. It is caused by a backscattering of red light in airborne water molecules." -Jon Vaughan, Photographer Fine Art Photograph by Jon Vaughan, dry mounted on acid-free foam board, custom cut and hinged on an acid-free matte.
