East Orleans in October "Sometimes when pursuing a sunset on the Cape, I go east instead of west, especially if there are no clouds in the western sky. If there is enough moisture in the atmosphere above the eastern horizon, the setting sun, through the backscattering of reddened light, creates an ephemeral pink band in the eastern sky. The Victorian's called it the "Belt of Venus". It is difficult to predict, happens only a few times a month and lasts only minutre before it is overtaken by the rising blue shadow of the earth projected in the atmosphere by the setting sun. Using a slow shutter speed, I let the crashing wave paint the film with its frothy freefall. Then I waited and watched the earth's spin deliver a memorable night rise." -Jon Vaughan, Photographer Fine Art 8” x 10” Photograph by Jon Vaughan, dry mounted on acid-free foam board, custom cut and hinged on an acid-free matte.
