1930s WCTU Convention Medals & Member Ribbons
Vintage set of 3 metal Temperance Movement delegate medals and purple silk ribbons from the 1937 World's WCTU Convention in Washington DC. Each representative medal comprises of the event dates June 3rd-8th 1937 encompassed in a sunburst pattern which suspends from a copper ring. The purple silk attaches the brass name tags which are topped with a city view of Washington, DC displaying the Capitol building among others. Each name tag is different with each with their hand written names. The names are Essie Allen, Nichols RI and Mrs A W Wakecluire Cambridge Mass. The WCTU was the first mass organization by women devoted to social reform. The WCTU was originally organized on December 23, 1873, in Hillsboro, Ohio, and officially declared at a national convention in Cleveland, Ohio in 1874.
