Antique Indian Wars period US military Hat and jacket dating to the 1890's. Made from melton cloth and wool the jacket has the rank of a corporal (double chevrons) on the sleeves, mostly red throughout with blue epaulettes and sleeve cuffs. It is lined heavily on the inside and the buttons are made by Boyle & son of New York. This was part of the uniform of the 22 regiment of Foot of the New York National Guard between 1895 and 1897 when chevrons were faced upwards from that point on military uniforms. The hat is stylized in the French Kepi manner which intimates it is late Indian war period or just after (1895). Manufactured by the Ridabock firm of New York they ran this label from 1887 onwards. That places this cap in the latter part of the Indian Wars.
