"The Little Giant" From 1879 to 1993, the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad offered rail service throughout Western Pennsylvania. The company was dubbed "The Little Giant" because it often would haul tonnage disportionate to its route. The rail line folded with the slow down of steel and coal industry.
