El Greco - Domenikos Theotokopoulos (Greek) ca. 1599–1600 El Greco's renowned landscape painting, considered his most magnificent work that has survived, captures the essence of the city where he resided and worked for the majority of his life. Rather than aiming for a precise and factual depiction, the painting follows the tradition of emblematic city views.
