Laureau Savennières ‘les genets’ Chenin Blanc
94 - Vinous 93 - Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate Region: France, Loire Valley – Anjou Viticulture: Certified OrganicGrape Variety: Chenin Blanc Dry medium-bodied white; pear essence | Smoked herring, potted shrimp Damien Laureau is a true rising star of the Savennières. He comes from a family of farmers who originally were growing oats for horses in Versaille. Independence meant a calling to viticulture, and he could find land in this still unfashionable region, and is slowly crafting one of the best farmed terroir in the world. The «Les Genêts» has aromas of pears, and easily shows off its schist and volcanic rock terroir, as it has a good amount of lively acidity and freshness. Its strong streak of minerality plays off well against many smoked dishes. We recommend a short decant before serving.
