The Quadrant goes back to the 15th century.  This model is a sea-going, local-hour quadrant of a type called a clinometer. These measure the solar height by the angle that the plumb string makes with respect to a vertical line that starts at zero degrees on a graduated scale. Fashioned of brass with wooden base with cotton plumb line with brass pearl. Max Height: 4.33" Width: 3.15" Thickness: 0.16"
