Apothecary Jar, Blue

The apothecary jar was used to store and preserve crude and compounded drugs, in both dry and liquid forms throughout medieval and renaissance Europe. Varying from the simple to the ornate, some apothecaries would have ornate crests and coats of arms emblazoned on their jars, with abbreviations and alchemic symbols, which varied across centuries and regions.A lot of what we know today about the medicinal powers of plants we owe to Louis the XVI and his studies of herbalism.
