Summer Camp Tee
During the Pacific Theater of World War II, many battalion newsletters utilized dark humor to address the serious situations and challenges soldiers faced. This approach aimed to boost morale and support the war effort. Satire served as a coping mechanism, enabling soldiers to manage the harsh realities of the conflict—realities that were often too severe for people back home to fully understand or for the media to portray accurately. This t-shirt commemorates the 80th anniversary of the war in the Pacific through the lens of satirical cartoons portrayed in many Batallion newsletters of the time. We honor the brave men who understood that fighting with the sea at their backs was akin to going to summer camp in the depths of Hell!
