This exceptional hand-carved burlwood bowl exhibits the rich figuring and warm patina that make early Native American utilitarian objects so desirable. Crafted from a single piece of burl, it has a beautifully worn surface, with traces of original tool marks and a soft, time-earned sheen.   Adding to its history and character, the bowl features an early tin make-do repair secured with hand-cut nails — a testament to its long and valued use. Its oval form and subtle rim “hangles” speak to its functional purpose, likely as a food-preparation or serving vessel. The bowl’s surface displays a range of deep, honey-to-chestnut tones, highlighting the complexity of the burl grain.   A superb example of Native American woodworking and early domestic ingenuity, this bowl would make a striking centerpiece for any collection of early American, Native, or folk art. Measures approx 17 x 11 3/4 x 5 inches.
