Ugly American

Ugly American is the fanzine expression of the late 80s "noise-rock" movement, encapsulating  post-hardcore, nascent "grunge" bad vibes and occasionally being right about the future of music. Highly obnoxious reviews that are merciless at times, yet often prescient. Interviews are exercises in trolling, channelling some type of sexual repression that I think we'd call "incel" today. Poor My Bloody Valentine got the brunt of it, interviewed on a doomed US tour by this zine's misanthropists. Still, a thick fan-oriented zine that really does care about music despite its nasty demeanor.  See cover images for contents, you'll know it if you see it.
