Buddy Budsker (born Otis Noble), was a regional soul music artist based in rural Illinois. The young Budsker got his start howling in his family’s basement studio. Soon after, he began appearing in local juke joints and the smoky supper clubs that dot the Driftless region. Buddy quickly became a Rust Belt sensation. With the smooth croon of Sam Cooke, the earnestest of Percy Sledge, and the woodsy edge of Otis Redding, Budsker made fans everywhere he performed. His dizzying live show drew comparisons to a young James Brown as Buddy worked up a lather romping across the stage to the shrieks of the crowd. A total package, Budsker seemed destined for world stardom. But just as his star was rising, his meteoric ascent burnt out prematurely as Buddy vanished from the Tri-State area quicker than he had appeared.
