Recent research has shown that choline is an essential nutrient for pregnancy that is just as important as folate or folic acid. In fact, multiple clinical studies from institutions like Cornell University have shown that getting enough choline helps prevent neural tube defects, promotes healthy fetal brain development, and improves baby’s memory, attention, and problem solving abilities. Yet over 92% of pregnant women in the US are not meeting their daily choline needs! According to the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) set by the National Academy of Medicine, expecting moms need at least 450mg of choline each day.
