Today is Valentine’s Day! Rose Milkthistle is eagerly awaiting a visit from her friend Samuel Barleycorn. He wrote to say that he would be arriving promptly at noon, and so she has prepared her best Victoria Sponge, topped with fresh wild strawberries, and brewed a pot of her favorite raspberry leaf tea. She pops the tea cosy on to keep it warm while she waits.Samuel arrives, dressed in his best sweater and tweed cap. What a surprise--he has brought her a box of candies! He compliments her on her dress—it’s a new one, with pink and white stripes—and she blushes.
