Trois Tulips
Trois Tulips, 2018 We were in Paris as a last family trip before our eldest daughter went off to college. The trip was bittersweet and I wanted it to be perfect. My daughter requested that we visit Jim Morrison’s grave. It was New Years Eve, and a magical time to enjoy the city of lights. But this was her request, so off we went to Pere Lachaise Cemetery. The sun was setting and a light snow began to fall. On our way, I stopped into a flower shop and picked up three tulips as an offering. There we stood, all four of us holding hands and looking down at Jim’s tomb. The girls threw the brightly colored tulips onto the grave, now white with snow. I remember thinking, as we stood shivering in the cold, that our family was already rearranging itself, just like those tulips that landed this way and that.
