This drawing was inspired by the recently released video showing the deepest recorded footage of a fish, the unknown snailfish species of the genus Pseudoliparis. This was a joint project between the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and the University of Western Australia. The fish were filmed in the Izu-Ogasawara Trench, south of Japan in the Pacific Ocean. This illustration includes a submarine exploring the bottom of the ocean, and various snailfish in action.
