Navajo Churro Yarn Great for tapestries and Rugs; undyed Our undyed wool yarn comes from a small 8-acre farm tucked away in the hills of Escondido, just outside San Diego county. A textile artist lives here and gives hospice to a small herd of Suri alpacas and Navajo Churro sheep. She shears and spins the fiber into yarn by hand, which is undyed and untreated —we recommend using as is or trying natural plant dyes! NAVAJO CHURRO WOOL Navajo Churros are the best fiber sheep for the hot, dry, shrubby environment in Escondido. They are tolerant of the heat and woody terrain while producing beautiful long fiber wool that the Navajo people would traditionally use for handwoven rugs. This is a great yarn for weaving tapestries too, and it’s an economical yarn for experimenting with dyes. NATURAL DYES We’ve included a few photos from our artist who used plants such as Eucalyptus, Mushrooms, Lichen and Nettle to dye her yarn. See below for other flower and plant ideas to use as natural dyes.
