Recipe:  take 2 stale cider donuts, 6 oz of questionable veggie oil, and one Esbit cookset.  Heat up the oil and then fry the old donuts back to life.  Enjoy with a cup of lukewarm coffee served from a kettle covered in ice in a small snow crevasse while the wind dances above your head.   Alcohol stoves have been around for ages.  They’re the simplest, and arguably the safest stove out there.  Also the quietest.  Disadvantage?  A bit slower than a gas stove, and a bit less performance above 9k feet of elevation.  Advantage: you can get fuel anywhere: gas station (heet), pharmacy (isopropyl 90%), booze store (any booze over 150 proof),hardware store (denatured alcohol).  Fuel is cheap.  They’re also silent, which is nice when you are in the woods.   The cook set is anodized aluminum, so it’s teflon free but more or less non stick.  Pot and small frying pan.  Ideal for one person or two people who don’t eat a ton of stuff.  You can simmer the stove with the built in simmer ring.   All th
