Antique Victorian Bodice Jacket Metal Lace Black Voided Velvet 1880s

Beautiful Victorian bodice/jacket constructed of black, voided velvet. Gorgeous, black, voided velvet in a large flower pattern along with small flower buds. Black organza bodice insert panel with a design of coiled, real metal cording - of finely twisted gold tone metal wires over a cotton core base, and also the very tiniest gold tone metal cording wrapped around black chenille yarn - incredible! Long sleeves with silk satin ruffles; bodice has a fullness as this was originally worn over a corset and bustle. Attached belt, stitched to the jacket at the right side, has two figural, gold tone buttons of a woman's face with an olive branch. Belt end snaps together at the front. Snap closures at the front; museum accession label inside jacket at neck. The photos do not do justice - the velvet reflects the light differently at various angles.
