Fine Antique French Napoleon III Era Tortoise Shell and Silk Cigar Case, Spectacles Etui 2, Purse
From the Napoleon III era or slightly before (c.1850-70s) comes a magnificently well preserved cigar case in opulently mottled cognac to chocolate tortoise shell with inlaid brass, and a silk interior which has leather side baffles, and is pocketed to hold 6 cigars. One would feel relatively certain this one has never been put to much use, if at all. Full measurements noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition throughout, age and type considered. No bites or loss to either thick panel of tortoise shell, and no hairlines or cracks. Interior silk lining is faded and showing age, has no odor. Brass metal frame which hinges and clasp are equally fine, the tortoise shell end panels and the expanding baffles all present in fine form.
