Fine Antique French Napoleon III Era Tortoise Shell and Silk Cigar Case, Spectacles Etui, Purse
From the Napoleon III era or slightly before (c.1850-70s) comes a magnificently well preserved cigar case in opulently mottled cognac to chocolate tortoise shell with inlaid brass, and a silk interior which has leather side baffles, and is pocketed to hold 6 cigars. One would feel relatively certain this one has never been put to much use, if at all. Full measurements noted on the photos. Very good condition throughout, age and type considered. One end of the back panel has disruption as if it's had either a push or perhaps a natural imperfection in the shell which has sort of flaked at the steam fold. I've marked the area with xxx so you will take a closer look. Price is adjusted for that flaw. Interior silk lining is not faded but seems slightly misfitted on edges, has no odor. Brass metal frame which hinges and clasp are equally fine, the tortoise shell end panels and the expanding baffles all present in fine form.
