APC ART is pleased to offer our global collector base this exceptionally rare KAWS “Chum 2002” figure in black, one of the most iconic early releases from the artist. This Black variant (the only hand signed variant), is in truly exceptional condition, having only been displayed briefly through the years. It represents what may very well be the finest example of this work preserved and also available on the secondary marketplace. Executed in 2002, this work is part of the seminal “Chum” series, which directly references the Michelin Man figure while reinterpreting it through KAWS’s unmistakable pop and graffiti-infused visual language. With its inflated, bulbous form and the artist’s signature crossed-out eyes, the “Chum” marked one of the earliest examples of KAWS bridging street culture with collectible design and fine art, laying the foundation for his now global blue-chip status.
