Kaws' "Tide" is yet another stellar piece by the iconic and enigmatic artist Brian Donnelly. First shown at the "What Party?" exhibit (Brooklyn Museum of Art. '20-'21). The original painting (seen in the last picture) instantly stood out, even amongst a plethora of other iconic works. The piece shows KAWS' "Companion" ( a semi autobiographical representation of the artist) in the midst of the sea, half submerged, lit by ominous moonlight-- his arms outstretched, leaving the viewer to ponder if the subject is stranded in the midst of the "Tide", barely staying afloat-- or simply enjoying the surroundings, afloat, relaxed against a backdrop of various hues of blue, lightly drenched by moonlight. This print is simply gorgeous; a small edition of only one hundred, printed on Coventry Rag paper, highlighted with texture and phosphorescent ink (which literally lights up the piece) making the moon "shine" on the subject as well as an expanding sliver of the water.
