Intro to Sashiko

Mending our textiles centers the art of repair and reuse.Across continents and cultures, many traditions embrace visible mending, but the geometric patterns of sashiko remain especially recognizable. In this Intro to Sashiko class, we’ll explore those iconic shapes while sharing tips for achieving clean, even running stitches.  We’ll provide sashiko thread, fabric scraps, and needles—but if you already have a favorite needle, feel free to bring it! As a thank-you for reusing what you have, you’ll receive an extra skein of sashiko thread. For Skill Classes (2 hours), we'll explore and test the many different designs you can use on your pieces at home.  For Project Classes (3 hours), you're encouraged to bring a piece from home you'd like to repair. 2 vs. 3 Hour Offerings Some classes are 2 hours long.
