A Rose is a Rose

Oh the beauty of a rose's spiral! Drawing us deep into its center desperately wanting to inhale its essence & experience the very heart of it. Done with a watercolor painting process referred to as "wet-on-wet". The paint is applied onto a wet canvas allowing magical things to happen as they mix & mingle in unexpected ways. Once dry, the painting is then enhanced with the liveliness of oil pastels to add additional texture & spontaneity. A heavily textured layer of encaustic medium is then applied over the painting to protect it, and also to enhance its sculptural qualities.
