I am fortunate enough to have family living in Hawaii, and even more fortunate that they let me come stay with them! During one visit, we hiked out to Ka'ena Point Natural Reserve in the Ka’ena Point State Park on the North Shore of Oahu. Aside from the stunning views of the mountains dropping down to the ocean, forming a coastline of volcanic rock, the reserve is home to hundreds of Laysan Albatross. These birds are awkward on the ground, but in the air with their wingspan stretching over 6ft, they are stunning. Taking in that unique landscape with the albatrosses soaring right overhead was a magical experience, and the inspiration behind this piece.
