You will, too! Chocolate maker Denise Castronovo has traveled repeatedly to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta region in northern Colombia, the land where Arhuacos cacao grows wild. She is welcomed every time by the indigenous people, and they trust her implicitly with their precious beans. As a board member of the Amazon Conservation Team, her current passion, besides chocolate making, is the Ancestral Tides project. Spearheaded by the indigenous people, the mission is to conserve sea turtles by combining western science with traditional wisdom. The Arhuacos spiritual leader said, « Sea turtles were created with the purpose to connect the land and sea through migrations between sacred sites. Protecting the turtles safeguards those places and maintains the balance of Mother Earth. » Denise was inspired by this message to craft a dark milk bar with Arhuacos cacao and sea salt as a little love note to the land, the sea and the turtles whose existence she is working tirelessly to preserve.
