Prerequisites: Introduction to Coldworking + Intro to Glassblowing 1, 2, and 3 Recommended: Color Application A Graal is a technique developed by Orrefors of Sweden in 1916 as a way to create texture and pattern in glass. Starting with a blank of clear or colored glass, an image or design is carved or sandblasted into the top layers of glass. The cut blank is reheated and cased in another layer of clear or transparent color and finally inflated. This class will introduce glass cutting techniques, masking resist for sandblasting, and an overview of kiln operation in the hotshop.
