19th C Antique Pennsylvania Federal Period Grain Painted Blanket Chest
With our utmost enjoyment, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this fantastic early 19th century antique Federal period grain painted blanket chest. The best grain painted furniture was made in rural communities where the residents had a taste and knowledge about high end furnishings, but limited means to afford or access it. This chest has an exceptional painted surface meant to imitate a book matched flame Mahogany. The painted surface in consistent on the front, sides, top, base molding, and even the feet. Each board is joined with dovetails and the joinery can be best seen on the back. The chest has a spacious interior with a lift top candle till and two drawers underneath the till. The two interior drawers are both fitted with steel locks and brass escutcheons, but this didn’t come to us with a key. We originally thought this was a New England box, but the drawers have Poplar secondaries leading us to believe this was probably made in Pennsylvania. The chest
